Dear expectant mother,

Thank you for giving us the chance to introduce ourselves. We are grateful for the time you’re taking to consider us as parents for your precious child.

We are Samantha and Sunil. Our home is filled with light and laughter — mostly caused by our two chaotic cats, Maverick and Raj, and our princess of a pup, Ginger. Samantha is a therapist with a background in clinical social work who specializes in severe trauma and PTSD. While living in Washington, DC, and California, she worked with survivors of torture, particularly asylum seekers and refugees. Sunil is a former Navy anesthesiologist who recently transitioned to civilian life after 12 years of active duty service. He is now a partner with a local anesthesiology group.

We met in 2005, and after 13 years of marriage and eight moves (including one to Japan), we recently finished building our forever home in Ohio — close to our families and where we both grew up.

In 2012, when decided that it was time to expand our family, we learned that natural conception would not be an option for us. From that moment on, we knew we wanted to adopt. Even while pursuing multiple (ultimately unsuccessful) rounds of IVF, adoption was always an “and,” not an “or.” We were both lucky enough to grow up with brothers and sisters, and we knew that even if we were able to conceive a child through fertility treatments, we still wanted to adopt. It’s been a long path, but we are so excited and honored to have the opportunity to share that journey with you now.

After moving around so much, we understand how important family is — and especially what it means to have roots in a place that you can grow from and return to, knowing that you will always be surrounded by love and support. That is what we are committed to providing for your child: a place where they can experience joy, curiosity, and growth, knowing that they will always be incredibly and unconditionally loved by us and by you.

It's the little things that we are looking forward to most when we picture our future family. There are books that we love from our childhood that we want to share with your child. Books such as The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe or The Golden Compass series are still dear to our hearts and it’s been such a joy discussing our favorite parts with our niece and nephews. We think about things like bedtime routines and sick days or everyone getting dressed up to go trick-or-treating. Those small moments, like holding their hand on their first day of kindergarten, or kissing boo-boos when they skin their knee, are what we imagine when we think about our life with a child. Traveling and exploring the world are amazing things that we absolutely want to do with your child but it’s the small parts of daily life we looking forward to the most.

We know that choosing adoption must come with many questions and uncertainties, and we are humbled by your courage and strength in considering such a selfless choice. There is no way for us to fully understand the difficulties you’re facing right now or how overwhelming this process must be, but we want you to know that you are not alone on this journey.

While we cannot be sure exactly what the future holds, we are certain about a few things. Above everything else, your baby will be loved. We will strive every day to make sure they know how much they are cared for and that our first priority is their health and happiness. They will always feel safe in our home, and they will always have a voice in our family. We will laugh, share, and create together. As a team, we will be there to support them as they become the person they’re meant to be.

We are thrilled for the opportunity to expand our family through adoption and to be a part of your story. You will always be a part of your child’s life, and we promise to respect and honor the choices you make regarding your adoption plan.

Thank you for this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. You’re in our thoughts, and we know that no matter which family you choose, your baby will be given the unconditional love and support they deserve.
