Dear Expectant Mother,
We can’t imagine the decisions you have to make; we know you are making the hardest decision, but you are making it out of love. We are so thankful you have chosen life for your child and whether you choose adoption or not, we are praying for you and your baby.
For as long as we can remember, we have always held a place in our hearts for adoption. My two cousins were adopted and grew up in a family surrounded by love. We have said many times over the years that we can’t imagine making such an important decision as to who will raise your child. We have always known if we were ever chosen we would love unconditionally and always honor our child’s mother. After being blessed with two children, we were unable to have any more. We always had dreams of more kids, and believe that adoption was part of the plan for our family. We know we have so much love to give and have such a supportive and fun family that would be perfect for any child to become a part of.
Let us tell you a little bit about our family. Steve is the best dad and husband. He is kind and caring and never too busy to play Legos or help build things in a doll house. Steve is very handy; he loves working on things, but even more than that, he loves teaching our kids new skills. They have been working on restoring an old Land Rover and even built their own playground with a ninja obstacle course. Steve never misses an opportunity to help at football, soccer, tennis or basketball practices. He volunteers his time at the kids’ school and at our church. He is always planning our next hike or kayak day. Every Saturday morning Steve and the kids make a big breakfast of waffles, pancakes or French toast. This has become a weekly tradition since Ella could help pour ingredients!
Abby is a loving wife and an amazing mom who always puts the children first. She volunteers at the school and at extra activities like sports and art. Abby loves baking and cooking and has taught our kids so much. Our daughter can now make cakes, brownies, pancakes and macaroni and cheese all by herself! Abby is fortunate to work from home, so she is with the kids every morning and takes them to school. After school she picks them up and they do homework together before dinner or after school activities. She makes sure we have dinner together as a family each night, and we usually use this time to talk about our days and plan something fun for the weekend. Each weekend we attend church, typically do some outside activity and spend relaxing family time together.
Ella is very kind and very creative. She loves school, but her favorite class is art! She also loves baking, horses, swimming, tennis, soccer and pretty much anything outside like hiking and kayaking. She is the best big sister and best cousin to the younger cousins in our family. She loves reading to them, teaching them new skills and giving lots of hugs. Ella can’t wait for a baby to join our family.
Ben is sweet, hilarious, athletic and full of energy. His favorite things about school are snack time, recess and gym class. He is passionate about sports with his favorites being soccer and basketball. He loves building with Legos and playing with matchbox cars, trucks and anytime he can dig in dirt! Ben and Ella always include you and your baby in their nightly prayers.
We are loving, fun and active family! We love showing our children different places. They have been to Disney World and we have taken a cruise to see some islands including St. Thomas and Tortola. We have had family trips to Cape May and the Dominican Republic. We go to Florida a few times a year for some low-key family beach time. We enjoy planning vacations and are currently planning a trip to Niagara Falls this fall and a trip to Arizona next spring. Every fall we go on a camping trip with two other families where we hike, fish, ride horses and have a really good time together.
Our extended family all lives within 30 minutes of us, so we can see grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins often. We even have two great-grandmothers who we get to see. We have strong support on both sides and often joke that when one of the kids has a school program or big sporting that our family brings the biggest crowd. Abby’s side has only 1 niece and at 18 months she gives Ella and Ben lots of practice giving hugs, kisses and making her giggle. On Steve’s side we have 5 nephews and 1 niece and lots of uncles and aunts. Holidays are full of big family fun!
Abby’s family has some strong Slovak Christmas traditions that Ella and Ben love helping with. Every December as a family we bake kolachi which is a Slovak pastry made with nuts or poppy seeds. We work with Abby’s mom to bake about 40-50 dozen variety of cookies each year to give to neighbors and friends. We also enjoy icing and decorating sugar cookies. Christmas Eve is one of our most special nights where we have a Slovak dinner that includes Opakansa, dough balls mixed with poppy seeds and cream, Haluski and Chicken Paprikash. We have kielbasa soup and finish with cookies and kolachi before opening gifts and stockings.
Steve’s family is where we spend Christmas Day and with 8 cousins and lots of food, it is a day full of memories. All the kids get matching pj’s each year and we line them up youngest to oldest for a picture on the steps. Steve’s mom loves crafts and spends time with the kids teaching them new skills. She also makes Nana’s famous sugar cookies for every holiday and every birthday! Throughout the year we have several cookouts, picnics and big breakfasts to make sure we all get to see each other often.
We admire the strength and love you have for your child. We know you are facing such a hard decision. If you do choose adoption and you choose our family, we want you to know we are supportive of open adoption and we look forward to working with you to create a plan that honors and respects the level of openness you are comfortable with. Your child will grow up surrounded by love and support and they will always know the adoption plan was made with love.
love and prayers for you and your child,
Abby and Steve
