Dear Expectant Mom,
Our hearts break that
you are in this position of putting your child’s needs above your own by exploring
the option of adoption. While this decision must be difficult, it is truly an
incredible thing that you are choosing life for your precious child. Being
unable to have biological children of our own, our hope and desire is to grow
our family through adoption, and we would love to provide opportunities for you
to share in this relationship as well. We always want to put the well being of
our children first, and that includes being open about their adoption story.
We first met while
attending a small university in Southern Indiana as two shy freshmen. Dating
was new for both of us, and Mariah was especially nervous. At a young age, she
discovered she would be unable to conceive, but together we have been looking
forward to our adoption journey ever since!
After working as an elementary teacher, Mariah is fortunate enough to have started her dream job as a stay-at-home mom five years ago when we adopted Kinley. Last year we were blessed to add our son, Judah, to our family through adoption as well. Every week they take trips to a local park, the zoo, or just head over to the grandparents’ house to swim with all of Kinley’s cousins! Matt has a very flexible job as a financial advisor and will often meet up at a park for lunch or take a day to go hiking together. It is especially nice to have the extra time together throughout the day when working from home.
While at home, we spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying our backyard. This summer we had so much fun adding a playground to go along with a water table, sandbox, and trampoline. Our backyard is surrounded by several large shade trees that help on hot summer days!
Family is also very important to us, and we are so blessed to live very close to Matt’s family where we will take day trips or a Sunday afternoon after church to go swimming with them in their pool. Mariah’s family is just a couple hours away, so we get to spend a lot of time celebrating holidays, hiking at state parks, or going on small vacations with the whole family. One of our favorite holidays to celebrate is Thanksgiving when a lot of Matt’s family gets together to eat, play some Wiffleball, and watch the kids play while everyone else recovers from the abundance of food!
As active members in our church, we have been blessed with an incredible second family. We often will have members of our Sunday school class over for supper or have an occasional game night as a group. On Sunday evenings our church offers a variety of Bible Institute classes we take advantage of while Kinley and Judah take off with their friends to play, make crafts, sing, and learn Bible stories. Our personal family and our church family are so excited for us to welcome a new baby into our home.
Ultimately, we want you to know that we will be open with your child about their adoption story. We have always raised Kinley to know how loved she is by her birth mom, and we have several great children’s books about adoption that we read with her. We have an open adoption with Judah’s birth mom and communicate regularly with her. Mariah sends pictures and information to her about Judah and they chat about how he is growing and developing. Kinley is so excited to have another sibling, and they will all get to grow up together with an understanding of what it means to have a loving birth mom who made the most selfless decision for them.
